What's In My Makeup Bag | The Summer Edition

Take a look inside my summer makeup bag...

Summer is officially upon us and it's even a bit sunny up north (finally). So, to celebrate the sunshine I thought I would share with you the products in my summer makeup bag.

During the summer months I tend to gravitate towards a lightweight base, dewy skin and bronze eyeshadows. I have already written about my love for the bareMinerals Complexion Rescue (you can see my post here). This is my go-to base this summer: it gives me flawless, dewy-looking skin and it’s super lightweight and hydrating. What more could you want?! I am always on the lookout for brightening concealers to sort out those pesky dark circles and I have been loving the L’Oréal Lumi Magique concealer. It’s a great colour match for me (I use the shade light) and it’s perfect for concealing my dark circles and brightening the eye area. Yet, it’s not heavy on the skin at all and it blends like a dream: a fab drugstore concealer.

Summer, for me, is all about the highlighter. You all know how much I love a bit of glow. So, it’s no surprise that I finally bought The Balm’s Mary-Lou Manizer. Wow – what a highlighter. It is a gorgeous champagne colour and the pigmentation is incredible. Oh and I thought I would give a quick shout out to the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze & Glow as the highlight shade is incredible (you can see my recent post here). I have recently rediscovered my Nars Orgasm blush and I can’t believe that I’d forgotten about it. It’s really not difficult to see why this is such a cult beauty product. A gorgeous peachy-pink blush with golden shimmer – the most beautiful summer blush.

My love affair with Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara came to a rather abrupt end recently. I have used They’re Real for years but I was finding that my eyelashes looked way too clumpy. Urgh. I love Benefit products so I was really disappointed. I might have to give Roller Lash a try. Anyways, I was in desperate need for a new mascara to fall in love with and, after seeing Victoria’s (InTheFrow) review, I decided to try the Lancôme Hypnôse Doll Eyes mascara. I love this mascara, like, seriously love. It really does create that doll eyes effect: my lashes look so long and fluttery yet still natural-looking and not at all clumpy. The coned-shaped wand makes it so easy to coat all your lashes. Also, and I know this isn’t a typical thing to say about mascaras, it smells really nice. It reminds me of roses. My last product is a great little drugstore find: L’Oréal’s La Palette Nude in Beige. Yep, the little palette that looks a bit like the UD Naked palette. The palette has a fab range of nude shades in mattes and shimmers. I love golden-bronze and brown shades in the summer so I’m a big fan of this little palette. It’s my go-to for everyday makeup looks. For a drugstore palette, the formula is really good (although sometimes a little bit sheer). The texture is buttery and the shades blend really well with a fluffy blending brush.
