The Sunday Post: Rossopomodoro, Newcastle

There’s a new Italian restaurant in town and they have the most amazing gluten-free tiramisu....

Okay, so I love Italian food and I mean seriously love but being gluten-intolerant can make eating at Italian restaurants rather difficult. So, when Becki from Beauty and the Brunette and I were kindly invited by Rossopomodoro* to visit their new restaurant in Newcastle, I was so happy to see lots of gluten-free options.

Rossopomodoro is located on the first floor in John Lewis in Eldon Square, Newcastle. The interior is really modern with lots of quirky features (like that gold pizza oven that looks like something straight out of Pinterest - I have serious kitchen envy!). The whole restaurant has a great atmosphere and I love how you can watch the world go by from the balcony. It also looks extra sparkly with all the amazing Eldon Square Christmas decorations.

Everyone at Rossopomodoro is so friendly and they were so incredibly helpful with my dietary requirements. They even recommended certain dishes to try. Now, unfortunately, there are no gluten-free starters on the menu (which is a bit of a shame). But, considering how full I was after my main and dessert, I’m kind of glad that I couldn’t have a starter.

For my main, there were lots of gluten-free pizzas to choose from and it did take me quite a long time to decide.  I eventually decided on the Marinara as I like my pizzas to be quite simple but with lots of flavour. And, this pizza certainly had lots of flavour. It was delicious and is by far one of the best gluten-free pizzas I have ever tasted! It was that good. The best thing was that it didn't have that gluten-free taste that GF pizzas often have. Although, I have been told that their other gluten-free pizzas are even tastier so I can’t wait to try more flavours when I next visit the restaurant (which will be very soon…).  Becki’s meal looked (and smelled) incredible, so go check out her post on her blog for a review with added gluten!

Now, on to everyone’s favourite course: dessert. I had heard about Rossopomodoro’s amazing gluten-free tiramisu and I was so excited to try it. Like, seriously, you have no idea just how excited I was. Let’s put it this way, I almost forgot to take a picture of it when it arrived because I just couldn’t wait to eat it. It looked b-e-a-u-tiful (definitely Instagram-worthy) and it tasted even better. I practically devoured it in about 5 seconds!

So, if you’re doing your Christmas shopping in Eldon Square, definitely make a visit to Rossopomodoro in John Lewis for a lovely Italian meal. For more information, including menus, reservations and opening times, please visit their website.

* A complimentary meal for two was provided by Rossopomodoro for review purposes. However, as always, my opinions (including my love for that tiramisu) are completely my own.
