In the (Sheer) Glow

New year, new foundation....

Nars Sheer Glow really doesn’t need an introduction. It seems like everyone has tried this foundation. I’ll be honest, I was feeling a little bit left behind on this one, and I have wanted to try it for so long. But, it ain’t cheap. £31 for 30 ml is rather pricey and I had become rather fond of the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue, which had become my go-to base in 2015. So, I just kind of forgot about Sheer Glow and all its hype. Well, that was until I walked into Space NK…

Since returning back from India, my skin has been so lacklustre. Urgh.  I needed a more medium to full coverage base. So, I decided that it was time to try something new. New year, new me? More like new year, new foundation. And I only had one foundation on my mind. It was time to get the (sheer) glow. I was colour matched to Deauville- which I thought would be a little too dark for my skin but it's actually the perfect shade for me.

I’ve using Sheer Glow for over a month now and I have to say I may have found the one in this foundation. Where to begin? I love the coverage of this foundation, it’s definitely not sheer as the name would suggest. It’s a medium coverage foundation that is most definitely buildable. The finish is an interesting one: now I’ll be honest I expected Sheer Glow to give a dewier finish. Now, that’s not to say that it doesn’t bring the glow (it does) but there’s also a slight matte finish to Sheer Glow. It’s somewhere in between too glowy and too matte. And I love it. Not cakey at all. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. It applies like a dream and it just makes my skin flawless. Yet, still natural-looking. Major plus. A little goes a long way, you only need like 1-2 small pumps max. I apply Sheer Glow with the Real Techniques Buffing Brush. Sheer Glow also has amazing staying power, especially if I use my beloved Too Faced Hangover Primer. Yep, this foundation is ticking all the boxes.

Now, we have to talk about the packaging. Normally, I’m a massive fan of Nars packaging. I love the minimalist look and the matte black detailing. The Sheer Glow packaging is definitely made for insta flatlays. But, realistically, the glass bottle is just slightly impractical. I prefer foundations with a pump so I also had to buy the pump for £3. But, then once the pump is fitted, the lid doesn’t fit. Now, the lock function on the pump ensures the foundation doesn’t leak. However, I’m rather skeptical about travelling with Sheer Glow.

All in all, I love the foundation but the packaging needs improving.
